The crossroads

January 4, 2010 | Posted by Jason | 1 Comment

You hear about it. Someone you know utters the words “I’m at a crossroad.” The first thing that goes through my head when I hear that  is “Damn, why did Britney Spears make that movie? She can’t sing, let alone act?!?” Nonetheless, here I am at a crossroad…

I’m 32, almost 33. I feel like Richard Dreyfus in Stand By Me. (Best childhood movie ever!) Thinking about my past, and hoping for a great future. I’m so thankful to be doing what I love to do as my job. Not too many people can say that in life. Most fall into what works, or settle for what pays ‘just enough.’ Not me. I never wanted that. Before I was in the web industry; I was a slave to Sales. Mortgage Sales no less. I hated it. Sure, it paid well, even more than I make now, but I hated trying to sell something to someone that didn’t need it. I knew I was meant to create things. Whether it be websites, designs, movies, animations, you name it. I needed to express myself. I’m glad I made it happen.

That was a long time ago. I’m glad I didn’t settle. Now comes 2010. Time to think about the future. There is so much to accomplish this year. I’m ready to hit the ground running.

Over the holiday weekend, I watched Terminator: Salvation. It was just ok, but it reminded me of a great saying that Sarah Conner carved into a picnic bench during the 2nd movie: “No fate but what we make.” Sure, cheesy it may be, but damn it rings true. Happy New year. May 2010 be BIG for you, too!
